Proposed Change to Weekly Pass Price
Staff is proposing to increase the price of a ViaPass, the frequent rider program that offers up to four rides per day over seven days, from $15 to $28. Discount-qualified riders will continue to receive 50% off on ViaPass. Increasing the ViaPass fare will also better align the costs and value of demand responsive rides, and price ViaPass accordingly alongside regional transit pass programs. Increasing the cost of ViaPass will allow the City to recover more per ride and may help manage demand, reducing necessary vehicle hours.
The Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure Commission will be discussing this proposal at its meeting on Monday, July 7. The meeting will be held in the City Council chambers at 6:00pm. The report can be viewed here:

Testing Changes to Downtown Pilot
The Downtown Sacramento Pilot has been extended to June 2027. The City will begin testing changes to the Downtown Sacramento Pilot zones in late summer 2025. Initial testing will include a separate fare structure and removing Sacramento Valley Station from the Downtown Sacramento zones. This location was the least-used Downtown service zone, but Via riders traveling to Sacramento Valley Station can reach it by way of a short walk from the Kaiser Downtown Commons Medical Offices service zone or a light rail ride from the 8th St & N St service zone. Future adjustments may be made during the Pilot - staff and Via will notify riders of changes.

Downtown Sacramento Service Pilot
West Sacramento On-Demand began service to select locations in Downtown Sacramento on October 7, 2024. The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District awarded the City with a Clean Air Funds grant to provide free fares in the pilot service area. With high demand for Downtown Sacramento service, the free fares subsidized by the Clean Air Funds was fully expended by December 25, 2024. The City continues to pilot service to Downtown Sacramento.
These locations are Sac Valley Station, the intersection of 8th Street and N Street, and the Kaiser Downtown Commons Medical Offices. These locations were chosen to provide access to the SacRT light rail system, Capitol Corridor and Amtrak trains, and to vital medical services.
Get anywhere in West Sacramento for one affordable, flat fare!
The City of West Sacramento works with Via, a transportation technology company, to provide residents, employees, and visitors with on-demand rides from anywhere in the West Sacramento to anywhere in West Sacramento.
Via Rideshare and the City keep the price low ($3.50 per ride, $1.75 per ride for seniors and people with disabilities) by asking riders to take a short walk to an intersection or main road to be picked up and to share the ride with other passengers going the same direction.
Hours of Operation
Monday-Friday | 6:00am-11:00pm |
Saturday | 9:00am-11:00pm |
Sunday | 8:00am-8:00pm |
The most convenient way to use the service is the Via Rideshare App on an Apple or Android phone or tablet computer. First, download the app and setting up an account. Then, turn on your device's location services so the app knows to pick you up. Then, enter your destination and request a ride. After the ride is scheduled, go to the pick-up location at the scheduled time, get in the van, and go!
Riders with wheelchairs or other large mobility devices should select the wheelchair icon in the app before requesting a ride.
People without smartphones or tablets can set up an account and request a ride by calling (916) 318-5101. Press 1 when asked if you are a Via rider. Press 1 again when asked if you are an account holder who needs to book a ride over the phone.
Via's telephone number is (916) 318-5101.

What is Via? How does Via work?
Via is not a taxi; it's not paratransit; it's not the bus; it's Via. So, what is Via? They have prepared a guide to their service:
New Via App Released
After six years of service through a single, nationwide smartphone app, Via released a custom app developed just for West Sacramento On-Demand. It is called Via West Sac.
If you turn on your Via app and are told that you are outside the service area, check your app's icon. If it is not a white icon that reads Via West Sac, you are using the old app and should go to your phone's app store and download the new app.
The new app will not automatically be installed on your phone. Riders must download the new app if they wish to continue calling for rides using a phone app. Account information was transferred to the new app, so you will be able to log in with your existing account information.
Riders will still be able to call for rides and for customer service at (916) 318-5101. Via's telephone number will not change.
The new app can be found at:
